Osborn, Missouri - Russ Wood's #14 Wood Racing/Fast Lane Engines Chevrolet inched closer to early-season form with a qualifying race win and a solid feature performance here at US-36 Raceway tonight. The Osborn bullring hosted a full card of races on this Thursday evening, with the MLRA Late Model tour headlining.
Wood started second in his division of the qualifying races, jumping out front immediately and staying there for the duration of the sprint, winning by nearly a half-lap and securing a good starting post for the main event.
Sixteen challengers lined up for the B-mod feature, Wood on the outside of the second row, fourth among them. The #14 made an early move into the second position and stalked the pace of the leader throughout the first two-thirds of the race, the front pack putting a few carlengths between themselves and a slower pack of trailing cars.
Wood held off challenges from the third- and fourth-place runners into the late laps, saving ground along the inside groove, but finally giving way as the two rivals found a faster line around the top. The #14 came home in a respectable fourth place, with Steve McDowell (#22) heading to the winner's circle.
